An external Thunderbolt drive is not recognized

<-- -->

Issue:

An external Thunderbolt drive is not recognized when using the Thunderbolt interface.

Cause:

The external Thunderbolt drive is not connected to a Thunderbolt interface. Depending on the computer, it may have a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt interface. If the computer was manufactured before February 2011 it will only have Mini DisplayPort. The interfaces are physically the same, with the only difference being the graphic printed next to the port. Solution:

Make sure that the Thunderbolt drive is connected to a Thunderbolt interface. If a Thunderbolt interface is not avaible use an alternative interface if available and compatible with the external drive.
