G-drive 4tb reported As 2.2tb by diskutility

Postby Corvanhonk » Dec 26th, '13, 06:25

I live in Kinshasa, DRC, and bought a refurbished G-drive 4tb on a recent trip to Europe.
On my Mac Mini - mountain lion - and on FW - disk utility reports JMicron and a 2.2tb partition inside.
System info reports a Hitachi Deskstar 4tb in the box. Partition is HFS+ .
I tried to update firmware but the G tool does not find the drive in an hour or so.
Tried to find sector size but did not succeed.
Do i have a controller problem or do i need to force 4kb format? If so, How?
Regards from Kinshasa.

Hi Corvanhonk,

Thanks for posting. The drive is most likely in a MBR partition table, to use the full capacity it needs to be in a GUID partition table. You can change that from the partition tab in disk management when you select the physical drive listing.
