G-Dirve USB 3.0 4tb not mounting

Hi,

My G-Drive 4TB isn’t showing up in Disk Utility with Mac OS X 10.9 or through my airport time capsule. It worked last week, but then suddenly stopped. The light on the front of the drive is steady white. Nothing changed on my side. It’s plugged into a huge battery backup so I know the power didn’t surge or anything silly like that... any clue what I can do?

I can only plug it in via USB because my laptop (retina 15”) doesn’t have firewire... and I don’t have an adapter. Any help?

Hi johnjarrard,

Thanks for posting. Try plugging the the drive into the computer directly to see if it is seen that way. If it is then the problem is with the time capsule and you would need to contact apple for support. If it doesn't work directly to the computer let me know and we can further troubleshoot.

Hi Dustin,

I figured out the problem. It looks like the power supply was bad. I replaced it and it all works now.

I have just changed to a new iMac . I used to connect my G-Drive 4tb with firewire, but now it won´t mount with a firewire to thunderbolt. I tried usb as well. Could it be the power supply ? Where can I get a new. The light is blinking all the time.

If the blink is slow and steady, about 1 a second it could be the power adapter. Power adapters are available from our website. However if you are in warranty you can call into the support center to see about getting a replacement. The support center number is 888-426-5214 8AM-5PM PST Mon-Fri.
