I set my new MacBook Pro to sleep but the G-drive's fan does not stop. Is this correct?

Unit Software Version: 0x10483

Hi onlyjohn,

Thanks for posting. The g-drive does not have a fan so any spinning you hear is from the drive. Normally the drive would spin down when the computer goes to sleep. What version of the mac os are you running? What connection type are you on?

The OS is 10.9 and the connection is Thunderbolt to Firewire.

Hi onlyjohn,

In our testing of g-technology drives we have seen no issue with 10.9. We have sometimes seen this issue on systems that upgraded to 10.9 by more than one OS version. (i.e. 10.6 or 10.7) On those systems it seems to be a conflict with left over drivers from older installs. The only other thing we have sometimes seen keep a drive awake is drive indexing. On some systems the indexing seems to run in ram while the system is in sleep mode keeping the drive awake. You can try disabling indexing on the drive, if that doesn't work I would suggest contacting Apple for further troubleshooting.

Set my new Mac mini to sleep but the G-drive's HDD does not stop. I have Mavericks 10.9 and the connection is Firewire to Firewire.

The drive is already set not to index in Spotlight, so that's not it.

Return to G-DRIVE

cron
Fatal: Not able to open ./cache/data_global.php
