DskChk began running on RAID 5 configuration

Postby golson » Oct 3rd, '13, 07:59

I attempted to access a file in a folder, and the drive was unresponsive. Upon restart, windows began running dskchk. After researching, it appeared this may be destroying data. I stopped the dskchk.

After reconnecting the drive, all folders are intact, but a large portion of the data is missing.

At no time did any of the 4 drives indicate failure.

Any ideas? Should I have let dskchk keep running?

Hi golson,

Thanks for posting. It sounds like you have directory corruption, dskchk is not able to repair this issue but interrupting it is not helpful. Your best bet is to copy off what you can, use a data recovery software to bypass the directory and recover the other files such as Data Rescue PC 3 or R-Studio, then reformat the drive.
