G-Raid mini not spinning up on Lenovo with 64bit Windows 7

Postby DNL » Aug 3rd, '13, 09:37

I have several G-Raid mini's, some are new and some are old.

Some will spin up when the power adapter is plugged in and some don't. The newer ones don't.

When one of these newer drives is attached by firewire to my t61p Lenovo laptop they don't spin up and therefore they don't mount.

The older drives do spin up and are recognized.

if I connect the newer drives by usb they do spin up.

I am running 64 bit Windows 7 and I have updated it as far as I know. Someone at G-tech thinks that the issue if I need to update the chipset drivers for the Lenovo. I have sent a message asking what these drivers are and where to get them but I haven't heard back yet.

Somehow, the Lenovo firewire conniption is not triggering spin up. The drives work properly on my Mac.

Hi DNL,

Thanks for posting. Is the firewire connection on your laptop through a add on card? If so besides the chipset for the motherboard you should check for driver updates for the add on card. Especially if the card was purchased some time ago.
