Change the internal disk

Postby carmolim » Jul 10th, '13, 11:56

Hello..

I bought one G-DRIVE in 2010, and the disk is now dead. I have another USB 2.0 enclosure with a 3TB disk inside and I want to replace the dead Hitachi drive with this one. Is possible to do this change?

My G-DRIVE has FW800, USB 2.0 and eSata...

Thanks.

Probably but you would surely void your warranty on the 3TB external disk drive. Also the speeds may be reduced. The newer drives are using faster SATA connections. The 2010 may be using a slower SATA connection and the chips in the enclosure may only support the slower SATA standard. You are probably better off opening up the G-Drive to see what type of drive is in it and get an equivalent WD drive. I have found WD's RE drives to be the most reliable but you will pay a premium for it.

Return to G-DRIVE
