Not accessible as shared drive

Postby nkline » Jun 11th, '13, 07:43

Problem
- When the G-SPEED Q unit is configured as a shared drive in Mac OS X 10.8.4, the unit is not accessible via the network.

Details
- When sitting at the computer, the drive is readable and writeable, and appears to work fine. After logging out of the computer (not shutting down), and trying to access the drive via the network, the drive is not accessible. However, the computer's built-in hard drive is accessible via the network.

G-SPEED Q Configuration
- Factory setup
- Capacity: 6 TB
- Available: 5.57 TB
- Format: Mac OS Extended
- Connection: One Firewire 800 cable

Computer Configuration
- Mac Pro mid-2012
- OS X 10.8.4

System Preferences > Energy Saver
- Computer sleep: 1 hour
- Display sleep: 15 minutes
- 'Put hard disks to sleep when possible' enabled
- 'Wake for network access' enabled

System Preferences > Sharing > File Sharing enabled
- Shared Folders: G-SPEED Q
- Users: admin (read & write)
- Options > 'Share files and folders using AFP' enabled

System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall > Firewall Options
- File Sharing (AFP) Allow incoming connections
- Stealth mode enabled

Network Connection Process
This is the process we use to connect from another Mac to the G-SPEED Q
- Finder > Go > Connect to server > afp://server_name/
The following shared folders are listed
- Administrator
- Macintosh HD

How do we enable network access to the G-SPEED Q?

Thanks!

Hi nkline,

Thanks for your post. The G-SPEED Q require that the computer be logged in to share on a network. This also is exhibited with other external drives, and is most likely a requirement to function properly. Please let me know if you have any questions.
