Using 2 2tb drives as one.

Postby pat » Dec 31st, '12, 10:58

Is it possible to use to separate g-drives as one? I have the daisy chained now with firewire 800 but would like to use them as one 4tb drive.

Thank you for any input.

Hi Pat,

Thanks for the post. It is possible to use 2 G-DRIVEs as a single volume. The way to do this is in Disk Utility. Make sure you have all your data backed up as you will destroy any data on the drives. Open Disk Utility, then click on the RAID tab. You will then drag each of the 2 G-DRIVEs into the RAID window, and choose Striped, or RAID0, then click Apply. This will create a Striped RAID0 of a capacity of 4TB. Please note that you still need to backup any data on the drive, especially as it is an unprotected RAID0 volume. If you need data protection, then choose Mirrored, or RAID1 when creating the RAIDset. This will creat a Mirrored volume of 2TB, with a copy of youtr data on each drive. Please let me know if you have any questions.
