G-DOCK ev w/Thunderbolt - drives not found with older iMac

Postby liberty » May 19th, '14, 08:44

I have an older iMac (Firewire 400 and Firewire 800 only). Using the Firewire 800-to-Thunderbolt adapter, I am unable to see either e-Drive that resides in my e-Dock. All software is updated and I am using the current version of G-Technology Assistant Utility.

Let me know if you have any ideas.

Hi Liberty,

Thanks for posting. The thunderbolt to firewire adapter is designed to be able to use firewire devices on thunderbolt equipped computers, not the other way around. You can only use thunderbolt drives on thunderbolt equipped computers. A thunderbolt cable has small microprocessors in each end of the cable and any signal must be translated at each end. The thunderbolt to firewire adapter has the processing only at one end.
Regards
