G-Speed es (realworld) speeds

Postby [r]Evolution » Apr 23rd, '13, 13:22

I've got a G-Speed es (RAID 5) connected via a NewerTechnology MaxPower eSATA 6GB/s PCIe 2.0 RAID Controller Card. http://www.newertech.com/products/pcieesata.php

My AJA System Test results are slower than expected and are fairly consistent:
- Write: 80MB/s
- Read 120 MB/s

* I also have a Highpoint RocketRAID 2642 3GB/s PCIe RAID Controller Card. http://www.highpoint-tech.com/PDF/RR26XX/RR2642_datasheet.pdf

-- 1) What speeds does AJA System Test show for your G-Speed es (RAID 5)?
-- 2) Do you think I would get better speeds w/ the Highpoint RocketRAID 2642?

Hi,

Thanks for your post. The speeds you are seeing with the NewerTech card are because it is a 1x PCI card, so it is limited by the bus speed. The Highpoint card may give better performance as it is a 4x PCI card, so it has more bandwidth. Please let me know if you have any questions.
