How to erase 6TB G-Speed Q Raid Protected Storage

Postby AnnieP » Mar 8th, '14, 11:13

I have been using this drive for Time Machine backups and want to erase it and start over. When I go into the Disk Utility and try to erase it, I get this error message:

Volume Erase failed

Volume Erase failed with the error:

POSIX reports: The operation couldn't be completed. Operation not permitted.

Can someone help me with this - tell me what I have to do to make this drive erasable??

Many thanks for any help.

Hi Annie,

If the erase tab isn't allowing you to format the drive you can try using the partition tab. The partition tab is only available on the physical listing of the drive. (i.e. the listing about the indented drive name) I suggest formatting into free space first to remove any previous partitions then apply the desired format. With each change the partition layout will need to be changed from "current" to "1".
