Daisy chain with Thunderbolt adapter?

Postby Misterbee » Jun 29th, '13, 09:13

I have a couple of Firewire G-Safes that I have chained together for video editing. I am thinking of upgrading my Mac to a newer model, which does not have a FireWire port. I know that Apple makes a Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter. But I don't know if it will support daisy chaining these devices thru it or not. I read the reviews on the adapter itself on Apple's website, and there seems to be a great disparity of opinions. Has anyone tried daisy chaining G-safes thru a FireWire to Thunderbolt adapter? I know that it *should* work, but I would like to be sure before I buy a new computer. Thank you for your time.

Hi Misterbee,

Thanks for your post. You should be able to daisy-chain the G-SAFEs using the Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter as the drives supply their own power. Bus-powered drives most likely cannot get enough power from the TB bus. Please let me know if you have any questions.
