G Drive 2TB Power Adaptor

Postby cparkin » May 6th, '13, 11:34

We moved house last week and, after packing the hard drive carefully away, we appear to have lost the 12v / 2a power adaptor. We've tried a 10 v power adaptor. The light on the hard drive comes on, and stays on, but not much else happens and my the drive doesn't show on my laptop. Could this be because I need to use a stronger power adaptor? Or should it work regardless?

If you think it could be the power adaptor, where can I buy a replacement from? I'm based in the UK and would rather not buy from the US and pay the enormous postal rates.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for posting. The power adapter must be 12v. The voltage must always match for a g-drive it is usually 1.5 or 2 amps. The amperage must be meet the minimum but voltage must always be the same. You can usually find universal power adapters for replacing. You could look into some local electronics vendors. So to recap the specs needed are 12v at least 1.5 amps 2 to be sure, a 5mm barrel with a positive center.
