How to set up a RAID 1?

To create a RAID 1 set, open the Disk Utility program. This application is located on your hard drive under Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.

1. The Disk Utility window will appear. Your G-DOCK will be displayed in the left-hand column. Information about the drive displays at the bottom of the window.

2. Select the RAID tab to view the RAID options.

3. Select G-DRIVE ev by clicking its icon in the left-side column. You want to choose the volume icon, not the disk icon. The volume is a partition that the Mac OS recognizes.

4. In the RAID Set Name field, name the drive. Make that name relevant to the content that it's holding. For instance, you could name it by the project and add a date.

5. From the RAID Type menu, choose Mirrored Raid Set.

6. To create the RAID set, from the left-side column, drag the two “disk" icons into the empty list area. You will now see "disk1" and "disk2" in that list.

7. Note that the estimated size goes to 1 TB of capacity, instead of 2 TB. You only see the capacity of one drive because it's copied (or mirrored) on the second drive.

8. Click the Create button in the lower right corner of the window. A dialog box will appear asking if you want to erase the G-DOCK partition.

WARNING: THIS NEXT STEP WILL ERASE ALL DATA ON YOUR DRIVE.

9. Click the Create button to continue. A progress bar in the lower right corner of the window will show the progress of the disk's reformatting.

10. On your computer desktop, you will now see a drive icon. This represents the RAID 1 volume, and indicates the paired mode of your two G-DOCK ev cartridges

11. The Disk Utility window will show the results. There are two 1 TB drives that are paired as "RAID slices." Their total capacity is listed as 1 TB.

12. Quit the Disk Utility program.
