Quick Setup for G-Technology Products

Quick Setup for G-Technology Products

  1. Remove your G-Technology external drive from its packaging.
  2. Use the appropriate interface cable to connect your G-Technology product to your computer. (From fastest to slowest: Thunderbolt, USB 3.0, Firewire 800, and USB 2.0)
  3. For desktop model drives, such as the G-Drive or G-RAID, connect the included power adapter to the drive, and then power the unit on using the power switch on the back of the unit. Mobile drives such as the G-Drive Mini or G-Drive Slim do not require power adapters and will power on once connected.
  4. Once powered on, the activity light on the front of the unit will begin to flash, and the disk will either appear on your desktop or in the Finder if you are using a Mac computer.

For Windows

Windows Users will need to reformat the drive before it is usable. For instructions on reformatting your drive for Windows Vista/7/8, please visit the following page:

On Windows I can't initialize my G-Technology hard drive. Disk Management says it is a "GPT Protective Partition."
