How do I change the RAID settings on my G-RAID mini?

WARNING:  Following these steps will erase all data on your drive. Backup any content before proceeding.

To change the RAID setting on your G-RAID mini you will need the G-RAID mini RAID Configurator. You can download it for Mac or Windows at the link below.

http://g-technology.com/support/g-raid-mini-raid-configurator

On Mac the RAID configurator can be used with any version of OSX. Only one G-Technology device should be plugged in when running the program. Using the RAID configurator will erase all data from the drive, so it is best to avoid possible confusion as to which device is being selected.

  2. Double click on G-Tech_Configurator_MAC_081910.dmg.zip and G-Tech Configurator-0810.dmg will be created in the downloads folder.
  3. Double click on G-Tech Configurator-0810.dmg and the G-Tech Configurator icon will appear on your desktop.

  1. Click Yes on the warning screen if you are ready to proceed. All data on the drive will be erased once OK is clicked.

  1. This screen will appear while the configuration is proceeding.

  1. If a prompt appears stating the the disk has been ejected, click OK.

  1. When the process is complete you will receive a notice of success. Click Exit.

  1. The drive will appear on your desktop and you will be prompted to initialize the disk. For instructions on formatting/initializing the drive please refer to the link below under “How do I format my drive for use with Mac?”

In Windows the current version of the configurator is only compatible with WinXP 32bit. Once the drive has been configured it can be used with Vista/Win7, but the configuration cannot be done on those operating systems. Only one G-Technology device should be plugged in when running the program. Using the configurator will erase all data from the drive, so it is best to avoid possible confusion as to which device is being selected.

Windows Instructions:

  1. Download and open G-Tech_Configurator_PC_v1.0.zip
  2. Double click on G-Tech_Configurator_PC_v1.0.exe
  3. If you are prompted to run or extract, select Run.

  1. If a second prompt appears, select Run on that as well.

  1. After a loading screen the G-Tech RAID Configuration Utility screen will appear. Click Continue if you are ready to configure your drive.

  1. A detection screen will show while your devices are being scanned.

  1. On the configuration screen select the RAID setting you want to apply and click configure. RAID 0 allows access to the full capacity of the drive and gives highest performance. RAID 1 gives access to half the capacity and creates a Mirror backup of all data copied to the drive.

  1. Click OK on the warning screen if you are ready to proceed. All data on the drive will be erased once OK is clicked.

  1. This screen will appear while the configuration is proceeding.

  1. When the process is complete you will receive a notice of success. Click exit.

  1. The drive will now need to be Partitioned and Formatted through Disk Management. Instructions can be found at the link below under “How to format my drive for Windows only (NTFS)?”
